The cottage is one of a few in a small Hamlet Attached to Detchant Farm. It is situated 3/4 mile from the A1, west of a point 1 1/2 miles north of Belford, which is half way between Alnwick and Berwick upon Tweed. Travellers from the south can use the Belford By Pass, but the road through Belford is recommended for the view.

The hamlet lies on gently rising ground, giving good views from the rear across to Lindisfarne [Holy Island], which is accessible at low tide, and the Farne Islands [a bird sanctuary].

Westward the land continues rising to more hilly country. There are pleasant walks in the immediate vicinity through Detchant Woods and up on the moors and the Kyloe Hills. St. Cuthbert's Way passes through the area.
